Julie Piper
Julie Piper is a scholar, a teacher and an artist. Having received a Masters Degree in Psychology from Virginia Tech, Julie is particularly fascinated by the inner workings of the human mind and the interaction between people. She is primarily dedicated to capturing figures and their relationship to the space in which they exist. These spaces vary from a hyper-real black and white line drawing all the way to the most imaginative, colorful and vibrant realities. Her artwork is a response to the chaotic world in which we live as it speaks to the daily piecing together of moments and images that when compiled make up our lives. She paints primarily within the acrylic medium and is inspired by artists spanning many centuries and countries. Julie resides in Northern Virginia with her two Siberian Huskies, Aurora and Sasha.

We are proud to have artwork by local artists Julie Piper and Sara Rassi adorn our salon's walls.
The artists' pieces receive quite a bit of attention from clients, and deservedly so -- the unique textures and patterns of the complex, mixed media artwork is remarkable and refreshing. When asked about what materials they use, Sara smiled, "anything and everything we can get our hands on," including fabrics, bubble wrap, even straws. Julie jokes, "I often do whatever I can to avoid using a paint brush." The two artists are inspired by travel and music. Both have been involved in "live art shows" where several artists create works of art in front of an audience as a dj plays music.
Julie and Sara are pleased to have their art displayed in the salon as they feel the relationship between hair and art is symbiotic -- stylists create a "visual image with hair as their medium" notes Julie. In "Girl With Ivy Hair" seen below, spray paint, lace, acrylic, photographs, and orange varnish are the medium, creating an exceptionally stunning visual image that immediately draws you in.
